Dante’s Vs Darksiders

Dante's Inferno Vs Darksiders The video games industry is turning into Hollywood. You know how a handful of movies based on the same theme, time period or subject matter will all come out around the same time? That’s because movie markers will find out what other studios are producing and make their own similar movie. So like the big Prototype vs Infamous debate we now have Dante’s Inferno and Darksiders, two games surrounding Biblical apocalypse/hell themes.

Now I know I have a bad habit of hating games before they even come out, but I HATE Dante’s Inferno already. Let me tell you why.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Follow-Up Rant

Harry Mason Kicks Silent Hill Shattered Memories Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Follow Up RantSPOILERS SPOILERS
SPOILERS SPOILERS
SPOILERS SPOILERS

Yeah. Spoilers. For this and other Silent Hill games.

So you know what? No. I’m not done bitching about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. In my review I tried to avoid spoilers but now, now I want to rant a bit about the story as a whole and why it just doesn’t work.

So if for some reason you were planning to play this game and don’t want its stupendously stupid ending ruined for you, well… don’t read this.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Silent Hill: Shattered MemoriesI was genuinely excited when I heard Silent Hill 1 was getting the remake treatment on the Wii. I never played the first one, so the idea of getting to play it with updated graphics sounded good to me.

Sure American companies have been making terrible Silent Hill games lately, but how can they screw up just taking Silent Hill 1’s gameplay and script and making the game again?

Well they could screw it up by deciding to make this a “re-imagining” rather than a remake, and by being developer Climax Studios the people behind Silent Hill Origins. Great. And like always, Climax has friggin’ missed the point of Silent Hill.

The Problem With Sims & Spore Expansions

Sims 3 World AdventuresEver since I saw the first expansion pack for Sims 3 this has been bothering me. What the hell is wrong with EA today? They keep creating expansions and spin-offs for Sims 3 and Spore alike that make no goddamn sense. Sure Spore Galactic Adventures worked out for what it was, but that doesn’t mean it’s appropriate to essentially take that same game and apply it to The Sims.

Yeah! The first Sims 3 expansion is basically Vacation meets Galactic Adventures. Send your Sims to Egypt or some other exotic locale and then proceed to fill it with fog, make booby traps and then direct your clearly ethnocentric Sim to rob a foreign country of its ancient artifacts. WHY? The Sims is not built for this kind of malarky. I could perhaps see this as a 5th or 15th expansion pack (you know when they’ve run out of ideas) but how about we start with the ability to build businesses and actually go inside of them, EA?

5 MORE Games Whose Existence Scares Me

familypartylies 5 MORE Games Whose Existence Scares MeGaming is a constantly growing industry, and as such every small, untalented company out there is desperate for a slice of the pie.

This, however, tends to result in horrid abominations that one doesn’t even need to play to be terrified of.

Sure it might be funnier if I actually played these horrible games and made fun of them then but shut up, I ain’t got that kind of time/mental stability. And I know I already brought you 5, but, here’s 5 more!

5 Common Anime Criticisms That I Hate

PIKA RAGEA few years ago on my deviantART account I put up a post I called the “Supah Funtime Anime Rant“. I always claimed I’d repost it on this site eventually, but since I’m an unoriginal whore and have gotten into the habit of ripping off the popular list humor format seen on every website in the world I decided to adapt the general idea of part one to this post. To the 3 people who actually remember the original: consider this a spiritual successor.

Now yes, I’m a fan of Japanese cartoons if that wasn’t blatantly obvious to anyone with a pair of working corneas. And yes, weeaboo, they’re cartoons, get over it. Naturally the East and West have distinctively different approaches and different schools of thought when it comes to comic books, cartooning and animation and both sides of the world have particular underlying techniques and ticks throughout.

But it irks me to no end when people go on about anime sucking because of something common to most cartoons in the world. Sure, you don’t have to like anime, but it’s my pet peeve and my website damnit! So here’s my list:

My 5 Top Year-End Games (With Bonus Rant)

Muramasa: The Demon BladeSummer is a slow time for games. Sure I got my Sims 3 and my Spore: GA, but those are Sim games, they’re not game games. And really what I mean is they’re not console games.

Why is summer slow? Because all of the games companies save their biggest releases for the year-end holidays that’s why. So, because I have nothing better to write about, here are the games I’m waiting on bated breath for, in general order of wantingness, that are going to heavily distract me throughout the fall and winter.

Girls and Games

videogames Girls and GamesAlright another post about video games, sorry, sorry! But this is something that really grinds my gears. In the online gaming community a seemingly innocent word has gained a bit of notoriety: casual. The “casual market”, as it’s usually called, is a demographic the gaming industry has suddenly started gunning for hardcore due to the success of Nintendo’s Wii. This market is made up of people who haven’t really played video games before, are starting to get into it, but will never be of the same mindset as today’s adults who have stuck with the hobby since childhood. This creates something of a rift in the games community (entirely one sided as “Casuals” are probably completely unaware of any such community.)

Not that I care, but there is a side effect of all this in advertising that’s beginning to irk me. Although the average age of gamers is now late 20’s early 30’s, and around 40% of gamers are indeed female, advertisers seem to be stuck in the same old stereotypes as the rest of society of gamers being braying, maladjusted 19 year old males sitting in dark basements playing teh Haloz.

And nothing displays this more than how they’ve begun to advertise to girls and women.

5 Games Whose Very Existence Scares Me

Wii Redneck GameAs any clever person may be able to surmise with a cursory glance of my site, I’m pretty nutty about video games. Since I’ve been playing them consistently since the age of seven I guess you could call me a gamer (but not a Gurl Gamer or I’ll be forced to hurt you.)

The games industry has always attracted companies out to make a quick buck, and this leads to some horrifyingly ill-conceived games that are only ever purchased by idiots and well-meaning grandparents who inadvertently ruin a child’s birthday. Without further adieu here’s 5 in particular (in no particular order) that have haunted the dark recesses of my mind ever since I had the misfortune of coming across them:

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied

Warning: some readers may find images in this article disturbing.

I had heard alot of praise for Elfen Lied and I think it caused me to imagine all sorts of things about it without ever having actually seen it. Like imagining it was good, for example. I was on a forum one night and someone was complaining about a particular scene in the show with a link to Youtube. I was more taken aback by the juxtaposition of a cutesy, colorful, boringly mainstreamed, low-budget moe animation style with something that looked like it was supposed to be serious, dramatic and bloody than I was by the scene itself. To me it looked like it was pandering to guro fans, and the series didn’t serve to erase this opinion as I watched it out of sheer curiosity. I’ve seen about 10 of the 13 episodes and skipped around the last three for this article but I don’t think I intend to finish watching it. There will be spoilers because the plot is just too ridiculous for me not to rant about.
